Innovation for Change Middle East and North Africa in collaboration with a local partner conducted research on Digital Currencies and the Civic Sector in the MENA Region as part of a larger I4C MENA hub initiative to understand the role of digital money in supporting civil society sustainability in countries deemed “relatively open,” namely Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, and Tunisia, which are ranked as the most open of all MENA countries according to the CIVICUS Monitor. The goal of the study is to give a critical examination of the possibilities of digital currencies and blockchain for the “social sector,” with a focus on the MENA area.
